Erdogan Outlines His Vision on U.S. Ties, Defense, Energy and Gaza

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan outlined his vision on key political, economic and security issues in an interview with Bloomberg, saying that Donald Trump’s return to the White House offers an opportunity to reset U.S.-Turkey relations on a more rational and constructive basis.

Erdogan stressed that cooperation in the defense industry remains a cornerstone of bilateral ties, describing Turkey’s exclusion from the F-35 fighter jet program as unjust and inconsistent with the spirit of NATO alliance.

He reiterated Ankara’s demand to receive the jets it has already paid for and to be reintegrated into the program, citing their importance for the security of both countries and the alliance.

Regarding the F-16 Block 70 deal, Erdogan said coordination with Washington is progressing smoothly, adding that pricing must reflect the efficient use of national resources and align with market conditions and alliance principles.

He also noted that Turkey is pursuing a multi-dimensional defense strategy, highlighting a contract signed with the United Kingdom in October to acquire 20 Eurofighter jets along with mission equipment and various types of munitions.

Erdogan further addressed energy issues and the situation in Gaza as part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening Turkey’s regional and international role.
